  1. In  spite  of  claims  on some software,  and  the  apparent  fax

  3. commands,  the  present  state  of  faxmodem/software  will   not

  5. differentiate between fax/data/voice. However.....

  9.                    Distictive ring / Ringmate
  10.  
  11. Many  areas  of the country have this feature, which  makes  your
  12.  
  13. phone ring differently (RING   or   RING-RING) if a person  calls
  14.  
  15. you  using  a different phone number. Your original  number  will
  16.  
  17. RING, the new number will RING-RING (like the old party line). If
  18.  
  19. you  tell people the 2nd number is your FAX number, and set  your
  20.  
  21. fax 'rings' to 6 or 8 then you can answer the 1-ring number  when
  22.  
  23. it  rings, and let the fax answer when you hear the 2-ring  call.

  25. It works like this. (if you have 8 rings set in software)

  28. RING (2)            RING-RING (4)
  29. RING (3)            RING-RING (6)
  30. RING (4)            RING-RING (8)

  36.      When  you hear the 1-ring you will have 7 rings  before  the

  38. fax  will  answer,  giving you plenty of time to  get  the  phone

  40. before  the  fax.  And on 2-ring, you just don't  answer  at  all

  42. letting the faxmodem answer.
